some late news for the day concerning Obama's EPA Pick

The following news item does not reflect my opinion. I am merely giving a summery of the interview that transcribed between NPR's Day to Day host Madeleine Brand and ProPublica's Joaquin Sapien. I will later write more about this. I do apologize if people thought that they were my viewpoints. A link to the sources are contained within the following news item.

President-elect Obama is expected to name Lisa Jackson as head of the Environmental Protection Agency despite her work as the head of New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection is coming under harsh criticism (NPR). Madeleine Brand talked with to ProPublica's Joaquin Sapien concerning this. The main complaint against her is when she began serving in New Jersey, she pledged to reform the state's toxic cleanup program and quickly rank and prioritize about 16,000 of the containment sites across the state of New Jersey. This ranking system was never deployed nor developed two years after her taking office. Some of her critics say that she has acted very lethargic approach to cleaning up two hazardous waste sites (a day care center that was built within a former thermometer manufacturing factory and a multi-million dollar community that was built on top of a chromium contaminated land in Hudson County, New Jersey). It took the DEP three months to actually shut down the manufacturing factory because they needed time to do some testing. Sapien's article titled EPA pick hit for Jersey record can be found at the Politico's website.

One thing I have been trying to do with my online journal is to bring an understanding of current events to the minds of many people. People should know what is happening in this world so that they can educate themselves and become better informed citizens.
