like a good neighbor

Good morning! The sun is shining bright in the sky and the computer lab is mostly emptied, but that is a huge contrast to the amount of people here waiting in the line just outside of the glass-walled computer lab. They are not waiting to use the computers, but to speak with someone about this or that. I believe most have come to discuss issues with their unemployment claims. I cannot speak for the rest. All of the chairs are full and people are standing up in the back of the room. There are only two people at the desks so the process is slow. I am here to listen to people from State Farm speak. I have been told that there will be a large group to hear them speak. With thirty minutes left until the person from State Farm speak, there is only one person standing by the door to the room where a State Farm representative will speak. I keep looking over my shoulders to see if I should just go inside and take a seat. I will do so in a moment.

The main roads were all clear so the commute here was not that bad. The sun is shining bright. There were parts of the driveway leading to the bus stop that were iced over from the ice and snow that fell on Friday and Saturday. I took some pictures this past weekend. It felt good to be back into photographing life with my old digital camera. I used my cellphone on some photos as well. It actually takes better quality pictures than my old digital camera. I may have to enhance the photos a bit, but they are still quality-worthy.

Last night without even meaning to do so, I watched Amélie. It felt really good watching it. I feel ever more encouraged to become a linguist. I even had a dream where I discussed my fascinaation with foreign languages to someone. So I will become a linguist. But back to Amélie. I never realized how much I really enjoy watching this film. I could go on and on about various aspects of this remarkable film, but I shall leave it that.

People are starting to sit down in the room. I must get a seat. Au revoir!

making musical sounds with the voice

I enjoyed last night. I practiced in a small ensemble of people. The song choice was good. The person leading the group commented on how I have a great voice. We are set to sing in front of everyone this Sunday morning. Am I nervous? Well actually not. If I was to be singing alone, then I would be nervous, but since it is a group, everything seems fine. I was in choir and we would perform before large crowds. It was fun. I was even in two musical productions (one of which I had a solo part). I do enjoy singing. I think that everyone has the potential to be a great singer. The problem lies is that people tend to lack confidence in themselves or the person may try to sing out of their range and then just give up in frustration. The key is to keep going and find out what works for you.

frosting over the ground

I walked outside just before the sun rose and saw that the sky was mostly cloudy. I could see the moon and a few other stars (their constellations I could not make out). I surveyed the surrounding, taking in the frost covered ground and windshields. I quickly went back inside to escape the cold. A few minutes later, wearing my coat, I walked to the bus stop. The sky had lightened a bit since the sun was about to appear from over the horizon. There were clouds about, but not much. No worries of snow flurries or freezing rain in my humble opinion. The landscape sparkled with frost. Small cloud formations appeared around my face as I hurried to catch the bus. My keys in my pocket and my headphones plugged into my ears to listen to music. And moments after I stepped to the bus stop, I could see the Highland bus turning left onto Lascassas Pike. I welcomed the warmth as I stepped onto the bus. After placing a dollar bill into the fare box, I took my seat and watched the frost covered grass pass by.

brightness on the first

last night, i was so excited about seeing Orion rising in the east, that I grabbed my cup of herbal tea and looked at the stars outside. It was cold and I was really tired. I do not even remember reading a bit of Jean-Paul Sartre's Nausea before passing out into a deep sleep. I was really tired.

Also last night, Michael and I went to the pet store called Fins and Fur. The cashier guy was very helpful as he gave us helpful tips on feeding our cats. He even gave us free cat food for our cats to sample. I cannot even remember the names of the food, but they were the wet food variety. The cats really enjoyed the food. They ate all of it and this morning, I began feeding them the new food. They loved it. I will have to get the name of the foods because I had not heard of them prior to our visit to Fins and Fur. You will not find these at your local Walmart (spearking of which)...I was at Walmart the other day and I noticed that they have stopped selling tofu. And why? It does not matter, I buy my groceries at Kroger.

This morning is great. The weather was cold and as I walked to work, I noticed the "sea" of frost on top of the grass. I should have worn a hat. Perhaps it will be warm enough for me to eat lunch outside. I eating couscous with tofu. Yum!

probably related to dreary

Good morning as the rain is frizzling all around. Wait, is frizzle even a word? fry or grill with a sizzling noise...actually drizzle...[light rain falling in very fine drops. probably based on Old English dreosan [to fall,] of Germanic origin; probably related to dreary.]. I digress though.

So it is another work week and all is full with rain this day and rain. My socks are wait. I always hate it when I start the day with wet socks. What can you do though? I did enjoy the weekend though. Yesterday, Michael and I cleaned the computer room and we were quite impressed with the outcome. We took many breaks so as not to wear out ourselves. So the room looks great now. We ate homemade Eggplant Parmesan while watching an episode of Noah's Arc. In one scene, Noah is trying to figure out if this guy he likes is gay (Wade) based on his apartment (i.e. cd collection, movies, books, etc.) So I begin thinking about my apartment and what I have. I have a poster of the periodic table hanging behind my desk, a display of Pixar toys on a shelf, and most of my books are geared towards mathematics and science. So what reading would I get?

What else should I mention this morning? Oh yes, I have decided to learn Latin in addition to learning Japanese and French. While riding the bus to work, I read about the verbs and the concept of aspect...a grammatical category or form that expresses the way in which time is denoted by the verb. So the perfect tense (or what is known as the past tense) is actually considered in the present timeline because as of right now the emphasis is in the fact that the action has been completed (as in he went to the store). It is fun to learn and it is yet another foray for me to continue my study of linguistics.

angry wrists should not type, but should they sparkle?

My right wrist has been bothering me all weekend long. Well most of Saturday. It calmed down on Sunday, but this morning, it was back to being bothersome again. I must have slept on it wrong somehow. I shall keep it by itself today and type with one hand. It is actually quite fun to let my other hand glide over the keys as I find the right words to express my inner thoughts. Using the mouse is a bit of a challenge though. I should have worn a brace for my wrist.

I watched Twilight for the first time this weekend and I actually liked it. I know that it was a bit of a slow pace, but it kind of fit the whole mood of the movie. Lots of pale blue scenery and an abundance of rain. I am still baffled by the fact that the vampires will sparkle in the sunlight with nifty sound effects. I suppose I should read the books and then watch the newly released New Moon. Then I can get a better feel for the series.
